Psychotherapy

Dr. Kan provides psychotherapy services to children, adolescents, and adults from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. She is bilingual and bicultural in English and Chinese, with fluency in Cantonese and proficiency in Mandarin. With over 20 years of working in various mental health treatment programs, Dr. Kan's clinical expertise includes psychological trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She is also skilled in treating clients who struggle with life transitions, identity, acculturation, relationships, parenting, caregiver-related stress, and women’s issues such as infertility and postpartum depression.

In her practice, Dr. Kan integrates traditional talk therapy with evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based therapy for depression and anxiety, as well as Trauma-Focused CBT, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma. With children, Dr. Kan also uses art and play therapy to help them express their feelings, process their experiences, and practice skills to reduce their distress.

Generally, Dr. Kan’s treatment approach is relational and strength-based. She is a strong believer that a collaborative and trusting relationship is a prerequisite for meaningful therapy. She also supports clients in recognizing and strengthening their internal resources, resilience, and their sense of hope. As a psychologist, Dr. Kan’s goal is to help you become your best therapist by guiding you to strengthen your confidence and increase your capability in managing your stressors.

Dr. Kan is contracted with Lyra and Modern Health to provide brief psychotherapy to its members. She also welcomes clients who prefer to pay out-of-pocket. Her regular fee is $200 for a 50-minute individual session or $230 for a 50-minute family session.
