Dr. Kan is a bicultural Licensed Psychologist in California and New York. She is fluent in both English and Cantonese and proficient in Mandarin.
Dr. Kan first received her Bachelor's degree from Washington University in Saint Louis, MO, with a double major in Psychology and Educational Studies. She then earned her Master's degree from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Psychological Services. She received training in play therapy at the Play Therapy Training Institute in Morriston, NJ. She also completed EMDR Level I and II training with Lauren Parnell, Ph.D., in New York City and received consultation from Karen Alter-Reid in Stamford, CT. Dr. Kan has been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York since 2006 and has worked in multiple settings across New York and Connecticut, including community-based mental health programs, primary care centers, inpatient and outpatient substance abuse programs, and private practice. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Kan taught various undergraduate psychology classes at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. In 2014, she relocated to the Bay Area to pursue her doctoral degree.
Dr. Kan graduated from Alliant International University in 2019 with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Kan finished a research externship at the Foster Care Mental Health Program in the San Francisco Department of Public Health. She also completed the following clinical practicum:

Dr. Kan then completed an APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the California Medical Facility, a psychiatric inpatient program within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Lastly, she completed an APA-accredited postdoctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente in Pleasanton. She worked with children and youth in the Department of Child and Family Psychiatry and adults in the Department of Adult Psychiatry.
