Dr. Kan is a bilingual Licensed Psychologist in California and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York. She is fluent in both English and Cantonese. She is also proficient in Mandarin.

Dr. Kan first received her Bachelor's degree from Washington University in Saint Louis, MO, with a double major in Psychology and Educational Studies. She then earned her Master's degree from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Psychological Services. She received training in play therapy at the Play Therapy Training Institute in Morriston, NJ, with Heidi Kaduson, Ph.D. She also completed EMDR Level I and II training with Lauren Parnell, Ph.D., in New York City and received consultation from Karen Alter-Reid in Stamford, CT. Dr. Kan has been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York since 2006 and has worked in multiple settings across New York and Connecticut, including community-based mental health programs, primary care centers, inpatient and outpatient substance abuse programs, and private practice. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Kan also taught various undergraduate psychology classes at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. In 2014, she relocated to the Bay Area to pursue her doctoral degree.

Dr. Kan graduated from the Alliant International University in 2019, with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Kan completed a research externship at the Foster Care Mental Health Program in the San Francisco Department of Public Health; a practicum at the Oakland Psychological Services; another practicum in the Department of Child and Family Psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, with rotations in ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments and treatment; an advanced practicum at the San Francisco Neuropsychology PC, focusing on neuropsychological evaluations; an internship at the California Medical Facility, a psychiatric inpatient program within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; and a postdoctoral residency in both the Department of Adult Psychiatry and the Department of Child and Family Psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente in Pleasanton. Throughout her doctoral training, Dr. Kan focused heavily on psychological and neuropsychological assessments in adults and children.
